Welcome to the web site for
The International Holistic Aromatherapy Foundation.
This site aims to introduce you to our organsation and the work 
we do on behalf of our members and Aromatherapy.

 

The International Holistic Aromatherapy Foundation was formed in 1988 by practicing therapists who aim to practice in a true holistic sense.

There are thousands of organizations, each with a specific purpose or goal.    We are an association of professional practitioners of holistic therapy known as Aromatherapy. Our association aims to:   
 
  • Be a professional body specifically for therapists practising Aromatherapy. 
  • To define qualifications and ethical standards required of people practising this therapy, forming the basis of professional membership of the IHAF. 
  • Allows the affiliation of training organisations offering education programmes which lead to professional qualifications in  Aromatherapy.  This training meets the standards required by the IHAF for professional membership.
  • Promote further research into the use of essential oils for therapeutic purposes and  informing members of any related issues.
  • Support and promote the need for educating the general public of the therapeutic benefits of Aromatherapy and of the holistic approach to health generally.

IHAF is affiliated with the Arormatherapy Council

The Aromatherapy Council or AC is the Aromatherapy governing body.  Through joining IHAF as a Full Member you automatically become AC Recognised.
As the field of Aromatherapy expands and becomes more prominent in the medical field it is important for the clinical Aromatherapist to be associated with the AC.   Medical practitioners and potential clients will be abale to access the AC register to find local Aromatheraipists.
The AC ensures continuity of Aromatherapy training in the UK and sets the critera for training  standards and school acreditation procedures.
